EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework Website Launched

EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework Website Launched

The Department of Commerce on July 17 announced the launch a new website dedicated to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF), adopted by the European Commission on July 10. The website will enable eligible U.S. companies to self-certify their commitment to adhere to the regulations set forth by the framework, ensuring safe and legal data transfers between the U.S. and EU.

Action Required: Under the DPF, some companies will have to certify their compliance annually, with enforcement by independent supervisory authorities such as the Federal Trade Commission. The newly formed Data Protection Review Court (DPRC) will handle privacy complaints from EU citizens and impose corrective measures on intelligence agencies if required.

Transatlantic Stability: The DPF is expected to bring stability and predictability to transatlantic data flows, providing the legal certainty required for companies of all sizes to transfer, analyze, and use data across the Atlantic.
