Carlos Paulino
Managing Director of Equinix Portugal

Equinix Portugal has played a key role in the country’s digital development for more than 26 years, as the first carrier-neutral data center in Portugal and a proven platform of resilience, connectivity and trust.

Since starting operations in Lisbon in 2000, our infrastructure has consistently demonstrated the resilience needed to support critical digital ecosystems and international traffic flows.

Today, Equinix Portugal sits at the intersection of Europe, Africa and the Americas. Our Lisbon platform is the starting point of the subsea fiber systems that connect Portugal to the world, while also acting as a bridge between Europe and the South Atlantic.

Our campus brings together more than 2,000 interconnections, more than 100 enterprise customers, more than 80 networks, 12 subsea cables and four Internet Exchanges, making it one of the densest interconnection ecosystems in Europe. It also gives customers direct access to the main global cloud and digital ecosystems, including all the major hyperscalers.

This position has been strengthened by the recent development of LS2, Equinix’s second International Business Exchange data center in Lisbon. Representing a total investment of more than €100 million, LS2 more than doubles the capacity that previously existed. Plans for a possible LS3 development in the Lisbon area reflect the company’s long-term commitment, reinforcing Lisbon’s role as an essential gateway between Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Looking ahead, we believe Portugal can become one of the leading data hubs in southern Europe. Its strategic location, expanding subsea ecosystem, renewable energy potential and growing digital demand support that role — and Equinix will help build that future.
