Webinar – Charting a Course Through Trade Uncertainty

On July 17, AmCham Portugal, in collaboration with Deloitte, held the webinar “Charting a Course Through Trade Uncertainty: Strategies for Trade in Turbulent Times – a Brief Discussion”.
At a time of growing global uncertainty and shifting tariff landscapes, this session provided our members with essential insights on how to navigate international trade challenges, while remaining compliant, competitive, and resilient.
We were joined by two expert speakers from Deloitte: Sofia Patrício, Associate Partner, and Clara Dithmer, Transfer Pricing Associate Partner, who shared their expertise on customs and transfer pricing strategies amid increasing geopolitical tension between the U.S. and the EU.

Key Insights from the Webinar:

– U.S. Measures discussed included tariffs of 25-50% on steel, aluminum, cars, and car parts, as well as the possible imposition of broad 30% tariffs on other EU products;
– EU Countermeasures were also analyzed, including suspended tariffs targeting metals, consumer products, soybeans, and almonds;
– From a customs perspective, the session emphasized the importance of tariff classification, rules of origin, and customs valuation in determining import duties;
– On the transfer pricing side, companies were advised to reassess value chains, risk allocation, and benchmarking methods to manage tariff impacts effectively and stay compliant.
Above all, the webinar underscored how trade strategy today must be cross-functional, requiring close coordination between tax, customs, and finance teams to mitigate risk and ensure business continuity.
We extend our thanks to everyone who joined us, and to our partners at Deloitte for this valuable session.
AmCham Portugal will continue to support its members by providing relevant information, encouraging dialogue, and promoting stronger transatlantic commercial ties.
