Estoril Political Forum
AmCham Portugal was pleased to participate in the 34th edition of the Estoril Political Forum, organized by IEP-Universidade Católica Portuguesa, under the theme “Independence in an Interdependent World – Celebrating the 250 Years of the Declaration of Independence.”
Bringing together international leaders, diplomats, academics, policymakers, and business representatives, the Forum once again established itself as one of Portugal’s leading platforms for geopolitical and international affairs discussion.
As part of the official programme, AmCham Portugal President António Martins da Costa participated as Guest Speaker at the George Washington Memorial Dinner, held on June 1st at Hotel Palácio Estoril.
During his intervention, António Martins da Costa reflected on the growing importance of the economic, commercial, and business relationship between Portugal, Europe, and the United States, highlighting the strategic relevance of the transatlantic economy – currently exceeding $7 trillion in economic activity.
In a rapidly changing international environment marked by geopolitical tensions, economic fragmentation, and increasing protectionism, the discussion reinforced the importance of preserving strong transatlantic ties and promoting cooperation between both sides of the Atlantic as a driver of growth, innovation, investment, and international stability.
The dinner was hosted by the U.S. Ambassador to Portugal, John J. Arrigo, and also featured remarks by Universidade Católica Portuguesa Rector and AmCham Portugal Board Member Isabel Capeloa Gil, as well as Professor Mónica Dias.
The evening concluded with a conversation moderated by Ana Cavalieri (IEP-Católica), fostering dialogue on the future of international cooperation and the challenges facing Europe, the United States, and the wider global community.
AmCham Portugal congratulates IEP-Universidade Católica Portuguesa for another outstanding edition of the Estoril Political Forum and for continuing to promote meaningful dialogue on the defining issues shaping today’s world.
