Why are Americans falling in love with Portugal?
The Expat Insider 2024 survey by InterNations ranks Portugal 15th among the top global destinations for expatriates. In 2024, more than 14,000 Americans chose Portugal as their new home, a clear reflection of structural shifts in the search for quality of life, economic stability, and investment opportunities.
According to the AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum), nearly half of all digital nomads in Portugal are American, while the number of U.S. investors grew by 162.5% in just one year.
Factors such as cost of living, tax burden, accessible healthcare, and an improved work-life balance continue to position Portugal as a top destination of choice.
